Like I said, I don’t think we went 30 minutes without a nurse or doctor coming in to check on us. On the plus side, we met so many different specialists. From speech therapist to physical therapist., but George’s favorite was the music therapist. Rich and I were so excited when this was scheduled on day 35 of life.
George was so responsive to music when he was in my belly, particularly Avicii. He totally gets that from Rich! When we saw her roll in with her cart filled with instruments our smiles lit up from ear to ear and George had no idea what was about to go down. Naturally, he was napping. The music therapist explained to us that newborns aren’t able to handle various sounds, so she started off by singing to George. She quickly noticed that George responded positively and introduced the guitar, which he absolutely loved. The session continued for about 20 minutes and George was responding so well to all the different sounds.

Music holds a special place for so many people, but as a teen I felt like I was able to express myself through music. I was heavily involved with band in high school to the point where I consumed my entire time sitting behind a drum set. Being able to hold George in this moment even with the CPAP and feeding tube, I felt a huge weight being lifted from my shoulders. I was finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and the tears just streamed down my face as the singing and guitar continued in the background. The 10 mile drive home started to seem so much closer.
